I worked at Accolade while Bubsy 3D was in development. The team knew how bad it was. One of my friends was the external PM, he knew it was hopeless.
That whole Bubsy project's resources were "siphoned" off for Syphon Filter. The head of Eidetic came to the CEO of Accolade and showed them the engine on which they'd build their next game, and asked if Accolade wanted to sponsor it. Aggrieved at being duped, the CEO angrily declined. Even at the time, I told the Bubsy PM, "Shit, we already paid for. the engine development with Bubsy money, why wouldn't we take ownership of it?" Syphon Filter sold well, Accolade was bought by the French, my project was canceled and the entire team laid off.
Ah, videogame biz. So forward thinking! |
