Almost panic bought a 5070 on Amazon but they sold out fast both times.
tbh my laptop with its 4070 (I think) has been fine with everything thrown at it. Occasionally games like Robocop are locked down to 60 FPS. But my desktop GPU is from the Obama years and flat out cannot play some modern games. I’d like something before the impending GPU exodus. 2 users liked this post: who is ted danson?, filler

I’m going to ride into the sunset with my 4080. After 3 years it’s still a beast.

I have still had some ancient ass Graphics cards...
GTX 750 TI 4GB RX 550 4GB RX 560 4GB Sold my RX 570 8GB My RX 580 8GB bit the dust! My GTX 1050 TI 4GB was still going strong! And my GT 1030 2GB was still chugging along! My newest Graphics card was an Intel Arc A750 8GB! I want at least one of those 7600 XT 16GB cards...Which suits me well since I only play fan games/modded Doom1&2 Duke3D, and emulation...AAA sloppa can eat a dick! 3 users liked this post: Polident, who is ted danson?, Potato

I got a 5070ti (plus a whole new system) this year, upgrading from a 1080.
Playing Cyberpunk the first time with it was like:

I’m looking forward to finally playing Cyberpunk.
It hasn’t been until recently that I messed with DLSS and frame gen. Both are impressive and kind of shit. In Robocop, where the UI is all green sharp angles and lines, frame gen is constantly warping them into blobs and artifacts. But at the same time, it convincingly smooth without game breaking latency. DLSS sometimes has bizarre ghosting, like you’re playing on a PSP1000. But again, decent image quality for the lower resolution. All that said, I’d like to play without any of that junk. 3 users liked this post: Nintex, HardcoreRetro, who is ted danson?

My RTX4070 Ti has seen less use than I expected.
Indiana Jones, Cyberpunk, Battlefield 6, some older games. And I have to say I might just go Switch 2 only if this one kicks the bucket. 1 user liked this post: who is ted danson?

Buy everything you want NOW. I keep telling people this.
In 6 months time there won't be much left to buy. Supplies will go like this - AI / Datacenters - Government - Industrial - Commercial - OEM - Gaming (contracts) - Consumer Sure the RTX5000 might not go into a company laptop but the same screws, prints, fans and glue does. And the AI money might be so good that they'll just risk legal action from the likes of Sony for not meeting demand because the fine is peanuts. It wouldn't surprise me if production of all consumer GPUs is already halted and they're just selling what they have in stock. 1 user liked this post: who is ted danson?

Maybe cope, but from what I’m reading, it impacts the high end cards most. Discussions about major price jumps are for 5080s and 5090s.
Stores have a lot of 5060/5070 stock. That’s what I’m aiming for. 1 user liked this post: D3RANG3D

Yeah and buy that shit NOW. RIGHT FUCKING NOW. All the corpos are on a Christmas break. When they get back the prices will go up across the board. They're starting to cancel orders too 2 users liked this post: D3RANG3D, who is ted danson?

TBH it was still running everything great, but with sales and the looming price hike threats, I decided to see if anything good was available. First I tried the Asus G14 with a 5070 TI. Figured if it was good, it could replace both the Blade 14 and my my Z13. Out of the box it was very impressive- nearly all metal build, OLED screen, amazing speakers, etc. Then I tried playing a game on it and it sounded like a banshee was caught inside of a jet engine. The keyboard got so hot that I burned my finger trying to adjust the volume. Back it went. Then I saw that Lenovo had the Legion Pro 7i for the same price. 5080! Even better OLED screen! Excellent thermals and performance! And also a massive power brick and a laptop chassis large enough to be a problem to carry around because it doesn't fit in most bags. I ended up returning it because it just wasn't portable enough for me. As powerful as it is, I think it would have just sat there unused. Figured I was done and would just stick with what I have for another year or so, but then saw that Microcenter had Asus Strix G16s on sale even cheaper than these other two laptops. This one has a 5070 TI, a really nice IPS screen, and a smaller power brick than the Lenovo. The laptop also fits into a lot more bags compared to the Lenovo. Just feels more portable overall. And while OLED is awesome, it's also nice to not have to worry about any potential burn-in issues. This laptop's design is also much better IMO. Thermals are equally as good if not better, and the keyboard layout is better too. I also really like the trackpad on it. It's huge, just like my Razer. This is the nerdiest shit ever, but it has removable back plate that doesn't need any tools to open. You just slide a latch and it pops off. You don't even need screws to change out the ssds. I hope this is something that they start using on all of their laptops. It makes it so much easier to swap stuff out and do maintenance. Sold the Blade 14 off today. Sold a number of things recently, in fact. Several PCs, tablets, games, and handhelds. Also got rid of my PS5 since it never got used. Ended up with this new stuff in 2025: -Switch 2 -Anbernic RG477M -Trimui Brick Hammer -Steam Deck OLED -Asus Xbox Ally X -Asus Z13 (best tech this year) -Asus Strix G16 -Microsoft Surface 12" -Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 3 I'm definitely good on new tech for a while. If you had told me that I'd end up with three new Asus machines last year, I would have thought you were nuts. I hated their products when I was looking for something new in 2023. So many problems. They seem to have really turned things around. 4 users liked this post: D3RANG3D, who is ted danson?, filler, Polident

But I've found that I'm very much about portability and mobile-oriented so dunno if I'm going to get another (gaming) desktop, at least not for a long time. Might get a small form factor one to replace the laptop I have hooked up at my desk, but wouldn't need it to play games. 3 users liked this post: filler, D3RANG3D, who is ted danson?

I ended up ordering a 9070 XT yesterday, didn't want to risk being caught out. Significantly cheaper than the cheapest 5070 Ti, and inflation adjusted not actually that far off what I paid my 3060Ti FE direct from Nvidia in 2021.
My original plan was a total upgrade late 2026. but tbh my 5900x/32GB seem totally fine still. Probably hold off on that until Zen 7 or even Zen 8. For the filthy poors out there ![]() Spoiler: (click to show) Spoiler: (click to show) 1 user liked this post: who is ted danson?

Both of my new and old systems have ASUS motherboards and video cards. Never had a problem with them. Even my new case is ASUS, not due to brand loyalty though, just price and decent reviews.
