Valve has responded to the worrying trend of games being cloned using generative-AI and sold on Steam, but instead of admonishing those games or promising to do something about them, it appears to have put the onus on developers to make their games less copyable.

It was in response that example that Giardino - after saying this was the first he'd heard of ransoming, and that probably it was an issue for law enforcement, though Valve would "help in whatever way we can" - outlined not what Valve was doing to clamp down on this, but what developers could do to guard against it. Indeed, Giardino began by underlining Valve's hands-off stance towards AI use, reportedly stating: "We don't want to be gatekeepers telling developers which tools they should or shouldn't use."

Even though the abject garbage that floods the Steam store every single day is undesirable, I far more prize Valve ignoring all these journalists and whiners (but I repeat myself) who want them to create some massive bureaucracy to police every inch of Steam and whittle it down into Xbox Live circa 2012 or whatever they seem to want.

Like will I even find a single article from this dude whining about all the "games" on Steam that are clearly someone firing up the Unreal or Unity store, grabbing a bunch of random free assets kitbashing the shit together and never coming back? If they clicked on that they'd see it's really an offer to pay $99.99 to hire a domain broker (who kind of looks like Asian Jeff with a beard in the stock photo) who will approach MOBA to find out the price they want for the domain. Domains don't literally expire on their expiration date, the system is designed to help you retain your domain. It's like three months and you can't take any of the available actions before they're released.

It'd be hilarious if MOBA bought it but Cerium never transferred it to them (since you don't have to in order for the site to keep working) so when it ran out they had to track down Cerium in order to transfer it and now it's stuck in that weird transfer limbo that can happen which is why the DNS is all fucked up.

This game deserves the spotlight and not being lepered because they thanked a nobody nutter.

Being fair, the project was talked with other niche but more popular YouTubers like Civvie11 and Grimbeard (is Grimbeard is hyper leftie at times). Is not recently and often in passing of covering other Steam Fest demos, because the game has been in development for ages.

I wouldn't be surprised if they replied to those back then too. It's a standard indie practice, you thank anyone for covering your game. Era not only wants to condemn the team but literally refund the product because they're marketing their game to whoever gives it attention. Fuck em for being willing to cultivate an audience that might have the wrong people in it.
