edit: Let me clarify, Smith's faulty critique of rentiers was not of landlords inherently, it was of the land monopoly that existed at the time. The state owning all land would be a land monopoly. This would abolish "landlords" for one landlord, singular, with no alternative. You would not own, only rent from a monopolist.

I also just remembered that I took Photography at my local community college because it was impossible to find the class open at Cal Poly Pomona. I simply transferred the credit when it was done. The class was about half college students and the other half was high school juniors and seniors. There was one girl that was only 14 in that class. I don't know why they allowed that.

as long as both parties are agreeing on the terms, owner gets money, renter gets to use the thing, both parties benefit, incredibly basic economics

Almost none of this land is accessible to the public, but lots of it is "leased" to corporate and other special interests who obtain political clout. Yet all they ever talk about is guillotining some local guy who is using his capital to make rentable space available to people who can't accumulate the capital necessary to buy. Strange that. Really gets the noggin a joggin.

As someone who is against blocking as a principle, and who appreciates some of the things Musk has done, removing the block function would be disastrous on that platform. His reasoning is obvious: echo chambers are bad, and blocking helps create echo chambers. And that reasoning is correct, but only part of the picture. Between bots and general psychopathic stalkers on the platform, you have to be able to block for the most extreme cases. Muting isn't sufficient. If your mom and followers have to see nasty sex fantasies and rape messages below all of your posts because some crazy stalker decided to dedicate their life to it, muting doesn't help. Blocking adds extra friction to the process of stalking. Yes, that friction can be overcome by simply switching accounts, but having to create 100 accounts to leave 100 messages is a lot more effort than doing it all with 1 account, because that 1 account can still leave messages everyone else can see even if you yourself mute them.
