the idea that we are inherently bad or selfish comes from thinkers who thought God needed to give us morals because we had none otherwise. And these lines of thought have been propped up by religions and various right wing ideologies. We based game theory on this idea and built ideologies on top to reinforce it.



If you read some philosophy you can find all kinds of different ideas relating to morality. Or you can find plenty of sociologists that disagree with this as well.

By most measures we are for the most part a product of our environment. That doesn't change a single thing I said. I'm not talking about a genetic predisposition towards bad; I'm talking about how we actually seem to be and actually act, in life, and in policy, consistently. We are for the most part a very selfish and very stupid people, and it doesn't help anyone to pretend otherwise.



It's why such things like vaccine mandates have to exist. In any normal society with vaguely thinking people, that wouldn't be necessary. Sometimes you have to actually force people to help themselves and their communities. I don't happen to think people who need those to act in a sensible way there are literally mentally retarded; I think they've been given dreadful information throughout their lives. Nature vs nurture.

One of the funniest parts to me is that they're only "boycotting" Microsoft because the BDS organization elevated them specifically even though there's a whole bunch of other tech companies with equal status. All those get a pass for genocide literally because some organization says "nah, we're focusing on Microsoft right now." Not a single person there questions this or advocates that they go further than the organization says. They even post saying they don't expect it to do anything. AND all these people are also fine with the forum itself not participating because corporate capitalist profits for owners who have never even posted once on the forum are too important to forego.
