I can tell you how it's gonna go. 

It works fine at the beginning. Then an unarmed de-escalation expert gets shot. The Conservatives make a meal out of it. "Liberal cities are lawless", etc. etc. De-escalation experts now refuse to go defuse something without a police escort or even a police assessment first. Things pretty much go back to how they were.
