Before that happens, I just want to say this ain't some self-righteous "fuck all y'all." I value this community. I think y'all are—hands down—the best people to talk fighting games with on the internet. I've been chatting, arguing, and making unwise avatar bets with y'all for years because y'all cool people that I genuinely respect.

And I don't necessarily think boycotting Evo or fighting games is the right move. This is not some grand sacrificial statement on my behalf. SonicFox made a beautiful vow to keep being the best fighting game player on the planet and wave their Pride flag at Evo in MBS' fucking face. To which I say hell yeah. That's the energy the community needs going forward.

I just don't know if I have that energy, you feel me? I think about our friend lucebuce, who was one of my favorite folks here and funnier than most of us combined. And how she felt less welcome in this space with SNK games being openly discussed. Games owned by the de facto leader of a country that imposes capital punishment on people like her. She felt she had to leave, but my ass stuck around and kept enjoying these games and this scene that I have the privilege to enjoy without persecution. And I guess there's only so much cognitive dissonance I can handle.

I'm passionate about this scene because as a Black man I feel like I belong in it, which is extremely rare for a gaming community. I want the FGC to grow, but not just to see the pot sizes get larger. I want more people to feel like they belong too. So I can buss they ass online.

Guys, we have literally banned people for what doops did since like day 0 of the forum. This isn't the sort of thing that should require us to come in and say, "Hey guys, don't do that because if you do you potentially empower trolls looking to cause problems." Sure, it's a joke and not meant to troll, but this is also one of those very basic things we have asked people not to do since like the very first days of the forums' existence. This isn't new, everyone knows not to do that sort of thing. It's the sort of thing where we have to action for it, regardless of user intent, because otherwise we get users doing it in bad faith and hiding behind the whole "I was just making a joke" defense.

Seriously, just don't do it. It's three days, it isn't some huge ban. Beyond that, unless they keep doing it this isn't the sort of thing that gets held against someone.

All that said, we're lowering it to a warning in the hopes that is enough to get the message across.
