Look at what you are saying. You listed games that all had expanded iterative sequels. That's great you liked them. What did the games do differently compared to each other? Not much at all, just added more polish, presentation, and a few new mechanics. Who said it can't be done, I said evolve the conversation because "The sequel is the same" is braindead kindergarden observational skills

Sequels tend to land in 3 ways:

Complete divergence from the OG game, where they often lose their identity cuz they added so much shit

Sequels that dont do much at all. Sometimes ends up feeling like glorified DLC in the worst instances

And then there is A game that evolves and expands on its original concepts, usually with a modifier or gimmick. The balanced take where the sequel expands but also retains something so unique, it justifies existing within the franchise as its own iteration

We've been playing these types of sequels for 20+ years, why people acting brand new now. Thats just weird to me.

I don't want to get too specific for obvious reasons, but I've been working on a big event for my job in the media industry and through a series of miscommunications the marquee guest has pulled out. I think our partner is going to cancel the whole event, so a giant wash for us.

I had never done this kind of producing before. it's a contract job and it wasn't really my job brief (I was a researcher originally), but I was trying to take initiative because I do like the company and wanted to show my boss I could take on more. now it's all fucked. I'm an at will contractor and assume a fuckup this big is just going to lead to termination. I basically didn't communicate a really pivotal change in the event decided by the partner that was a complete nonstarter for the guest, and now it's too late to get an alternative guest.

I've been laid off before, but never fired due to a fuckup on this scale. I really needed this job. I know it's really stupid but I have just been having constant panic attacks since this all went down yesterday. I keep crying like a fucking idiot. (it's a remote job so not at the office thankfully) have spent today trying to savage it but I don't think it's gonna happen.
