Looks like my car isn't getting recalled again. But I'll check later just in case.

Because of a false flag recall I lost my car insurance and almost lost my drivers license because I was never told. Fun times!!!

So basically that car theft recall was applied to my car, and my car insurance got wind of it. Since I didn't get the notice about the recall, months went by and I got dropped from my insurance unknowingly and because of that I was days away from losing my license.

Turns out it was a false flag! My car was fine! Very frustrating at the time but I can laugh about it now.

Yeah I'm not a fan of it either and this extends to the plethora of gross ads (visual and audio) spread throughout the game. I know the arguments. It's Cyberpunk it's not meant to be nice, etc etc. I think there can be value in exploring 'nasty' or 'offensive' ideas in fiction, but you can't just insert horrible shit as 'vibes' and call it a day, which is exactly what this game is guilty of. Not across the board, of course, a lot of the narrative and characters in this game clash tonally with some of the more problematic imagery/dialogue imo. The quest with Claire comes to mind.

I suppose you could argue that the point of having lady V called those gendered insults is to make male players feel what it's like to be a woman today, but this is at the cost of making women playing the game uncomfortable. Not a worthy trade I think. The ads in particular feel designed to titillate horny nerds but they're only ever used as set dressing, nothing insightful is ever done with them.

The outcome, then, is that this shit just reinforces the problematic/bigoted stuff we encounter in today's world, rather than deconstructing it.

What's more respectful, signposting to treat the audience like children who need to be spoon fed basic morals (something that even children don't necessarily need done) or assuming they're intelligent enough to recognize that, as you guys often like to say, BAD THINGS are BAD?

Also, showing something and then going "hey this shit is offensive" is not remotely deconstructing something.

After three minutes of Googling I have only confirmed my suspicions that car insurance does not drop people because of car recalls. I even found the specific Kia/Hyundai thing and it was about car insurance companies refusing to issue new policies not revoking old ones which probably would be highly illegal.
