Last few months I have turned off all political tags on ResetEra, the forum has become unbearable when it comes to politics. Most posters being American, you can really see how the tone has shifted over the last few years. The culture war, and the sheer hostility toward any genuine socialist movement, has seeped into every corner of every online website/forum/social media.

Talking politics here was already difficult since the forum has often barely been left-leaning at the best of times. These days, it's actually easier to discuss progressive policies in my own country's bloody subreddit (Australia) than it is here. Things like Gaza discussions was and has been a headache here.

Americans, as a collective, have perfected and weaponized this strange mix of self-inflicted victimhood and self-importance. The country keeps shooting itself in the foot while spreading and funding absolute genocide and horror on other countries, but christ you better not say "Well, America deserves it.": and admit you stop caring about the country and the people, in favor of saving your last drop of sympathy for someplace more deserving. Because "You should care! Our country affects yours! If we suffer, you will too!"

It's like watching a toddler with a gun constantly misfiring, demanding sympathy for its own self inflicted wounds, while threatening everyone else if they don't give them what they want, and care to stay a viewing witness to its own fascist downfall.

can we discuss how previous moderation history is used to motivate the severeness of bans? if somebody gets a permanent ban for something like a long history of antagonizing users, even citing a recent ban that is supposed to be an example of this behavior, we all trust that those bans were for extremely horrible behaviour. i mean we have to have trust, because those other posts are not linked, so all we can do is trust that the banner has an accurate representation of the history

but something happens to that trust if we then go dig up that recent ban and see that it was given for a completely innocuous post. it makes me question if those claims of "long histories" are usually accurate, or if they were a misrepresentation made to get rid of a poster. likely 95% of the time, they're accurate, but those other 5% of the time, makes you doubt the whole moderation.

i don't know what i think should be done. i don't think it's good for the ban histories of posters to be public. but maybe posters should be able to access their own ban histories at least, so that they can push back against those 5% or so of cases where the moderation banner misrepresents the history. i don't like the asymmetry between moderation and users where one side can refer to a long trend in a history that the other side can't even access

Maximo's right, ResetERA.com was always a right-wing forum but it's moved even more to the right and became even more unsafe for the members forced into leaving in droves. One of the clear consequences of having so few trans staff members.

I also saw a post about that on Genshite (there's a character called Kaeya there). The gacha community is really infested with right wing guys and pedos, that they are now currently downvoting/banning a lot of people who are posting that is queer coded or anti-rightwing stuff (they recently banned a post about a VA who came out as a Kirk fan). I think those places help me lot to quit my last remaining gacha (will just get the free character, and support the VA and the queen subs and quit).

The communities that hate Hasan so much are also one of his biggest promotors. They post about him and overblow any drama and just expose him to a bigger audience. Yes a person who first learns about Hasan from this drama will have a negative view but if they keep hearing about him a percentage even if it's a small percentage could listen to one of his takes on a topic that impacts their life directly. They will listen to a take you can't hear from any mainstream show or political commentator and be drawn in.

if you advocate for the people's best interest, if you call out the people adding suffering to their life you can and will gain support.
