I love Castle of the Winds, it was the first roguelike I ever played, and it's actually one of the first roguelikes

the creator was directly inspired by the earliest examples of the genre (Rogue) and had been asked by Microsoft to make use of all the features of their brand new Windows platform, with frames and scroll bars and icons

it is a casual fun roguelike since you can save and load at any time, and there are a lot of types of gear and spells

hard to get running on modern hardware and I actually made that DOSBox Windows 3.1 VM just to play it
