Edwards defense attorney Daniel Small reportedly told the jury that his client was approaching Howard to see if he would trade his knife for cigarettes.

I had to deal with a guy who was arrested for this very thing.  He was walking out of a gas station and a person, let's call him a bum, approached and asked for a smoke.  He said no and the bum pulled out a knife.  He started wailing on the bum.  A cop appeared and ran up on his blind side to seperate them and he ended up taking a wild swing at the cop.  He was sent to jail for 90 days.  The bum said he was just offering a trade.  No clue on his outcome.  This will remind me to look up the sentences for these people. 

I was trying to teach the guy how to work off-site at a 55+ center where he could wash dishes from 9:00 to 2:00, get a lunch where you were allowed to use knife, fork, and spoon, and then be off for the day at 3:30.  Then you could retire to an entire cell block with only 6 other work-release people. You could watch Friends on the TV until the other norms came back at 6pm and wanted to watch Naked and Afraid. 

But he was an insurmountable prick who started drama with another work release guy in the block he only had to see for 30 minutes a day.  He said being alone from 3:30 pm to 6:30 was like "Ad seg" (administrative segregation).  The other five guys on the block were working with him and asking his story but that guy couldn't think beyond his own forehead. He was just too much of a singular prick.  Thank god he left that cushy station on his own. 

I remember talking to a very cute jail counselor about these odd balls.  She said just one person can destroy a 35 man pod.  One person holds that ability to harm the spirit of dozens of men.  I should look her up when I have a nicer place.

So first of all: She was incredibly lucky that English was her native language and that she wrote HP in English. If someone had written basically the exact same story but in Bulgaria/Mongolia/Botswana it would have never become an international bestseller, let alone a global one.

Second: HP was rejected by 12 different Publishers. Not 2 or 3. But 12. The 13th only published it because he gave it to his daughter to read and she happened to like it.
So if the kid daughter of publisher Nr. 13 had not liked wizards, or just had a bad day, J.K.s little idea would not have been published. Perhaps the 14th Publisher she would have approached would have published it. But it is also entirely possible that no one else would have ever published it. Or a different publisher, years later under different circumstances, leading to such changed parameters that it would not have become a global success.

Is it even possible to have console sales analysis thread that doesn't turn into barely disguised console warring 15 posts in. I feel like that was the rule that I always had the most trouble with, you see it constantly, but then I felt like I was more likely to get it trouble for calling out people's need to put their fav over in response to another's success at all times. Or just stating the obvious just gets labeled as meta commentary.

I feel like despite "everyone" on Era posing and posting that they all think the console wars are over a decently big enough chunk still post like its the console wars but now instead we're in the secret covert ops era of console warring.



Honestly I'd take the actual console wars at this point at least there wasn't any tip toeing and was a lot more straightforward. Feels like I've been seeing the same argument in a thread that gets repeated with the same semantics and loops.

Calling it covert is generous.



I get that we want to discourage accusing people of being console warriors and stuff for companies, but I don't enjoy having to pretend that people's parasocial ties to these companies don't regularly sour conversations where even the most reasonable criticism is read as a personal attack and people feel the need to strike back. Then there's the cases when some people are repeatedly playing in your face so blatantly. Is the solution to just use the ignore feature and watch it end up being the same person each time that antagonizes people for criticizing their preferred first party.



Just want more games discussion and sharing and less region wars / 1st party wars / my fav dev / IP is the only thing innovating / everyone else sucks. And the whiplash between I'm gonna shit on all this, but it's disrespectful to the developers when you criticize the thing that I like.

But for what it's worth, whenever I accuse people of anything, it's because they've already told on themselves in multiple threads, so I'm not bringing things up out of nowhere.



And being biased isn't even necessarily a bad thing, just own it, qualify your posts with it.

It is extremely annoying and tiresome when people obviously have their faves and biases and just go fighting for and against anything to do with them (and often pretty much entirely unrelated conversations). Its fine to have tastes and most at times can get defensive, 
but the level of activity that is on display is unreal.

I just turned 50 last month. I am single, I'm barely making ends meet, I am bipolar and today my roommate over over 14 years informed me that he is breaking the lease and moving to help his parents

He's leaving at the first of January, he sees nothing wrong with this. Theres no way I can afford this apartment by myself, there's not enough to find someone trustworthy and dependable. I have shitty credit so its going to be impossible to find another place

And because of my brain disease, I can't drive. Right now I live close enough to work that I can find a ride or Uber. Once I no longer have a place to live, ill have to leave the job

So at what point can I realistically admit that im out of options, out of luck? On top of Healthcare costs going up, the country going to Hell. What's the point? Especially when it's not going to get better in my lifetime

So, I fought for 50 years, and none of it fucking mattered, so when is it okay to just wave the white flag and surrender. Because I dont have much fight left in me

Just wanted to give an update

Ive convinced my roommate to wait until February to move out which gives me a bit more time to hopefully find another roommate i can vibe with.

I also kept my therapist appointments as to not self sabotage

And the comic shop I work for convinced me to start a Gofundme, I did not want to do this, but I decided to show myself grace. In less than 4 days its already at 50%

I dont think I'll ever understand why people give a shit about me

But I just wanted to let people know im safe, my brain hasnt been kind, its part of the disease. I still fear that I wasted my life and im now paying the price, but I'm safe
