I'll never cease to be amazed at the level of attention these things provoke in the gaming industry. Everyone in my circle, working in diverse fields like finance, big law, medicine, non-video game software development, consulting etc, has periods where they have to put in long hours.

I can't imagine a journalist having an audience for an article like "Clifford Chance associates required to work long hours to finish due diligence on X client" - because that's what the job is. Like, how is this newsworthy? You occasionally get some visibility into this issue at investment banks, but only insofar as some junior analysts have been overworked to a much, much different scale than what gaming journalists call "crunch" (not 60 hours)

You are free to work somewhere chill, and probably make less money or work on less important things; or chase the money or status typically found in high-workload environments. Gaming might be unique in drawing this level of attention to this issue, and I'm not sure why that is.

My take is that all of these "journalists" and low-level video game workers all come from a low-skill job background where you are paid by the hour and don't know how many shifts you're going to get next week (if they even have a job at all). The idea that a salaried staff member would have to put in extra hours to complete work on time is foreign to them because they have spent their entire work life avoiding completing anything so they can eke out a few extra minutes to afford vidya gaems.

Israeli gaming company Overwolf has is raising donations for equipment and food for IDF soldiers in the front-line. The equipment and food is purchased by the company's employees and distributed to soldiers all across the country.

As a user of the popular Minecraft Modding launcher "Curseforge", I was deeply disturbed to learn that Curseforge/Overwolf has been donating money generated by users like myself to the Israeli Defense Force (IDF). This decision, made without consultation or consent from its user base, is not only unprofessional but also a grave misuse of community trust.

Regardless of individual opinions on the Israel-Palestine conflict, it is crucial that we hold companies accountable for their actions. In this case, a gaming company has taken upon itself to fund a military during an ongoing armed conflict. This is not just about gaming anymore; it's about ethical business practices and respect for user trust.

The IDF receives substantial funding already - in 2020 alone, they received $3.8 billion in foreign military aid from the United States (source: Congressional Research Service). The additional funding from Curseforge/Overwolf may seem insignificant compared to this figure but every dollar counts when it comes to war efforts.

The question to ask yourself is, do you want to be involved with a corporation that directly funds an army currently engaged in an active conflict with a country composed mostly of young adults and children? Or do you feel private corporations have no place donating money on our behalf to world militaries.


This petition calls on Curseforge/Overwolf to immediately cease any and all financial contributions towards IDF or any other military organization involved in active conflicts around the world. It's time for us as users and consumers to demand transparency and accountability from companies we patronize.

Instead, Curseforge/Overwolf should spend this money on improving their own platform and increasing consumer transparency efforts if they wish to remain the largest CDN (content distribution network) in the video game modding scene.

Please sign this petition if you believe in holding companies accountable for their actions and ensuring our online communities remain places of fun and creativity rather than political battlegrounds.
