Why yes, the MCU is adult CINEMA. The products in the toy aisles at stores, along with commercials on children's television, are actually meant for adults.

I hate the "banned book" discourse so much Rage

the kind of "book banning" you have to watch out for is government mandated bans where the book isn't available anymore, completely suppressed

not libraries performing curation based on the stated desires of their local community

news flash: if a book can be "banned" and then it becomes a best seller on amazon and everyone is crowing about how they're giving out copies to everyone they know, THE BOOK ISN'T BANNED

tens of thousands of published works are ALREADY not available at any grade school library because they're inappropriate for children, like porn or ultraviolent gore comics

are those "banned?" why aren't you promoting giving those to children too, furiously demanding that your school board put Hustler on library shelves? maybe there are actually reasonable guidelines for things that shouldn't be tacitly encouraged to be read by school-age children?

hell even works that are considered to be outdated and full of misinformation aren't in school libraries, like older textbooks or encyclopedias, are those also "banned books?"

fucking admit that there's a difference between state censorship and curation
You want to cancel Scholastic for trans folk
I want to cancel Scholastic for making poor children feel bad when they cannot afford to purchase anything at a book fair

We are not the same.

I do like how excelsiorlef can take time out of their busy schedule of supporting hamas, an anti-LGBT terrorist orginization, to complain about Scholastic's willingness to compromise with CHUD NAZI republican ideals.

What I find hilarious about their "books should never be banned!!!" screeching is they are posting it on resetera, a sign that loves to ban any game, book, movie, source, topic etc that they don't like.

Truly top minds at work.

Full of people who regularly dictate to other what media they're allowed to create and consume. It's truly mind boggling.

Yeah, mostly. Now, those people make this same argument to claim that deplatforming isn't a form of censorship. It absolutely is a form of censorship, as is "children's school libraries can't carry porn." Some forms of censorship can on occasion be justified. Even Benji would have to agree that Amirox shouldn't be allowed to send kids dick pics. "Censorship" isn't a silver bullet that kills any policy; it represents the fact that you really, REALLY have a high bar to clear in order to justify it.

And that's where the true difference lies. The vast, vast majority of parents are of the shocking opinion that "Illustrated blowjobs shouldn't be given to my kids by strangers." It's completely justified, because the target audience is children, and if their parents really wanted to get it elsewhere, they easily can, as you mentioned.

Meanwhile, a deplatforming campaign is a targeted effort to keep adults from being able to reach their adult audience. In a free speech society, adults are not guaranteed AN audience, but they should be guaranteed THEIR audience. In other words, Adult A wants to talk to Adult B, who wants to hear Adult A, but Adult C is interfering as much as possible to keep them from communicating with each other.

Both are a form of censorship, but the first very easily clears the high bar of justification, while the second doesn't even come close.

When it comes to school boards - which AFAICS in the US are mostly politically motivated elected roles of people who want to determine what schools 'should be' allowed to teach, and not like, a teaching union defining curriculum I don't think its as simple as that, because, what, a 10 year old can freely choose to go to another library of their own choice as an alternative?

Because it used to just be right wing dip-shittery of banning D&D for satanism or whatever, but now libraries are being DPed at both ends as the 'leftists' are demanding the library gets 'decolonised' by getting rid of 'problematic' works, like things that have stood the test of time on quality but are still from a different era, or anything by straight white men because.
era already hates scholastic because they think no-talent-hack-fraud jkr only got rich because scholastic pushed them as a face

Monster of the week episodes were the best thing about X-Files. The Witcher would have been better with more of that type of thing.

Absolutely. And it made the occasional main story episode all the sweeter because the overarching plot wasn't moving forward every week. Same with Supernatural before that started to suck.

biggest example here:

Quote:'Empty shelves with absolutely no books': Students, parents question school board's library weeding process

Books published in 2008 or earlier removed from school library amid confusion around new equity-based process

and I almost wish it would start happening more often from an accelerationist standpoint, to have more public examples to point to, except lefties just say shit like "a qualified librarian deciding on their own to make a valid judgement call isn't the same as frothing conservative moms. those books aren't BANNED they're just currently not on shelves"
Smug
I, for one, love watching this shit from afar. You have conservative idiots screeching about witchcraft and the devil wanting to ban Harry Potter and then progressive idiots screeching about transphobia and the devil (JK Rowling) wanting to ban Harry Potter.

Can't wait until they have a proper meet cute and fuck...

well we all know the only reason excelsheet made the thread is culture warz bullshit because
  1. we all fucking know if someone was ever stupid enough to give them any degree of authority they'd absolutely go on a banning spree
  2. they don't even fucking live anywhere this effects
  3. they will never spawn an offspring that would make this their business (or give enough of a shit about anyone not themselves to get, say, a teaching job)
