was always a little sad that the book's version of the witch king's death couldn't be incorporated, but it's understandable, no bombadil means no barrow downs which means no barrow blades

it's debatable that eowyn could've killed him on her own, but merry literally had one of the only weapons on earth specifically enchanted to kill that specific guy

however it's one of those things that only an omniscient narrator can tell you about, from merry's perspective he's like wow I guess I got lucky

It's like not even a news story or anything just a tweet saying that they could, in theory, do it because they aren't legally prohibited from doing it. Except the Governor has a block on the death penalty even if for some reason they chose to do it.

edit: There's over 500 people on death row in California, including ones who were sentenced as late as last year, but none have been executed since 2006 because of these governor blocks on its usage.

Some day people will learn what precedents actually mean when it comes to law. (haha jk)

this is like a socialist telling everyone "yes, mr. ford, a nazi, is correct actually. need to democratize access to cars! autos for the people. this is about equity!" and then taking a time machine 100 yrs into the future and looking at what cars did: create a society dependent on fossil fuels, imprisoned people in suburban hells that destroyed communities and communal politics and made people dependent on television and malls and mindless consumerism for feeling alive. i'm sure these type of socialists existed back then...

I’m an AI critic who is also a staff software engineer. I am extremely familiar with what AI can and can’t be useful for. It’s best use cases are not as a consumer LLM product for writing prose or generating images and video, which is the main way it is being sold to the public. The downstream negative effects of data centers, as well as the obvious issues with giving anyone the ability to create realistic deepfakes of living people doing anything you want them to do are enough to demand that AI be highly regulated. It is like arguing that every person have access to an atom bomb. It’s best utility is on closed datasets not essay writing and insert yourself into your favorite marvel movie.
