There's also a very literal reason for this: Claire's character model for RE2 remake was 15 when she modeled for the character in 2016. So even if they're using the same model, she'd be at least 25 now.

Now why Capcom choose a 15 year old for Claire, is its own can of worms. But it's very possible that Claire looking older is more a side effect of the real world passage of time, and not necessarily (or just) an intent to make her appear purposely older.

Yep. I don't know if she was actually rescanned or if the model was just updated but her birth year is listed as 2000. Capcom uses modeling agencies with foreign talent available to them locally in Japan so they end up scanning a lot of young editorial or fashion models, more recently insta types with representation, etc. and that's a notably 'young' industry (ugh) in general, nevermind the dynamics of "Exotic European model in Japan".

Jordan McEwan is Claire's character & face model in the RE2 remake. When the game was revealed at E3 2018, she eventually commented that she had done the modeling work in Japan 2 years prior. Which tracks with the game's development beginning in 2015. Buuuuuut the model was born in late 2000, meaning she must've been 15 when the modeling occurred. This probably isn't very well known since the model ended up turning 18 by the time the game actually released. But that modeling itself was from when she was 15.

The modeling world is a weird creepy place that normalizes this kind of stuff.

I'm gobsmacked that this isn't brought up more often. What in the fucking hell. At least Resident Evil 2 isn't leary or anything but using a 15\16 year as the design basis for your canonical 19 year old character is a choice.

Depending on the day they'll claim that this is even worse because it means Eve isn't even a sexual being and that is bad! Of course on any other day they'll freak the fuck out if a female character should behave sluttish and throw herself at male guys.

I distinctly remember clicky carl freaking out pre release because he was convinced that Eve will get impregnated by Adam.

For awhile I was still thinking "okay maybe it's a bit much to shame literally everyone trying to hype up that game." Then I realized, "wait, no it isn't!"



There is admittedly a lot of grey area (which ranges anywhere from highly obnoxious to somewhat reasonable) on what age video game characters are stated to be vs their outward appearance and the graphical presentation of a game. This is WAY over the line, though. Like it's not even close. In no universe do I want to even hear some kind of thoroughly insane "well she looks like she's probably at least of the age of consent in 2 states..." argument. Because she isn't.



It is the signature point of presentation and selling point of the game. There is no escaping it. It's not some side character or hidden costume. It's the protagonist. You cannot separate "just playing" the game because you "like the gameplay" vs accepting how disgusting the design is. It is right in front of your face the entire time.
