I can't count the number of times people would post something about how they don't like Stellar Blade and then like clockwork people would swoop into the thread with their "looks great, can't wait to play it" drive-bys.

 

He gets it. Nobody just goes into a thread without reading every post and posts whatever they instantly think. No, they scour the thread and wait for the proper moment to drop a bombshell to undermine the posters they disagree with in the most dishonest way possible. Yeah I had to roll my eyes when I saw that. And it's a 1 week ban now, but it was 100% a 2 week ban initially. It's especially frustrating when I've seen threads discussing GenAI, or linking to AI generated articles be left alone or just locked at most. Like yes, it's a "sensitive topic", and one that should be open to discuss and criticise here, not slapping a user with a ban for trying to bring awareness to it.



Tbh, I've felt increasingly less comfortable participating on this forum for various reasons, this latest stuff with SB2 is just icing on the cake, so I doubt I'll be sticking around much longer aside from lurking here and there and maybe occasional posting in OTs and such.

Re: Stellar Blade 2, I think it's difficult to draw a line in that staff has made it clear that bans are only for the most specific, extreme-case stuff like wizard shit and even a quarantine like Cyberpunk was more of a one-time only thing for numerous reasons that Era's policies have since evolved beyond. Ironically, I think that confirmation of the blatantly likely use of Gen AI background assets would do more to stifle discussion.



At this rate, we're probably heading for a situation where, whether or not threads get a staff disclaimer, they'll effectively operate similar to MS threads etc where it's fair game to shit all over the company/game itself, but not users for playing the game, while nobody can complain about people harshing their buzz by shitting on Shift Up or the game.



Relevant to the most recent posts - What is definitely the disheartening thing here is for what is effectively a progressive space, you get an awful lot of chud-adjacent posting from some of the people excited for the game. And I say chud-adjacent because these people need to make their hype known while being utterly dismissive of criticisms. The wild thing to me about it is just… posting on main so proudly. No ethical consumption and whatnot, but hardly any "well… [any one of like five red flags here] sucks and I hope they course correct, but because the gameplay scratches a certain itch, I'm probably going to play it…" or just… shutting up and playing the game because you like the gameplay and are fine with the gooner aspects (not even getting into the entire thing about portraying the main char even younger!) but understand the optics of shouting about how hype you are for the game in a progressive space. Ateast just have a bit of awareness and/or shame.

Hello, I'm a game dev. The notion that most devs use some form of genAI nowadays is true. Even Unreal has an integrated AI agent, so technically all UE5 games are "tainted" (see how ridiculous that sounds).

Whether studios feel the need to disclose genAI usage depends entirely on their marketing strategy. Are you big enough or do you care enough to fan the flames? If you're a small indie team like ours the best course of action is to not disclose it, despite us using genAI extensively for player-facing elements. Same goes for all the indie teams I know of.

The discourse around genAI has become so polarised and irrational that studios are simply choosing to shut up about its usage. You guys are just making things worse for yourselves without realising it.

I won't touch on the widespread hypocrisy around AI coding, because apparently programmers' jobs are not as valuable as artists' according to many. Reading opinions such as "programming is just executing, it's science, it doesn't require creativity etc" tells me everything I need to know about the general level of knowledge in this thread. If that's your way of rationalizing AI being used for coding, the same rationalization needs to be done for art, otherwise it's just hypocrisy.

Lastly, it's easy to use words like "theft, stolen, stealing" behind an anonymous account. Sadly for many of you, in the real world those accusations will get you sued and you will have to actually prove them in court.

I love how we're over eight fucking years into this forum and they're still doing "I GUESS THIS PLACE ISN'T AS PROGRESSIVE AS I THOUGHT, THINKING ABOUT CLOSING MY ACCOUNT."

When over all that time not a single person has ever once cared that anyone has left and nobody even brings up anyone who has left. Just these nebulous groups that have supposedly left in droves but are somehow always posting like TransEra. Even forum legends like Fat4all get like two days of posting in a couple threads before everyone just moves on and nobody ever mentions him ever again. Ketkat murdered thousands and nobody's even mentioned him ever again, his "girlfriend" Robin still posts on the forum to talk about pooping on the floor and blaming others yet nobody ever asks "how's Ketkat? Have they considered coming back to save lives again?" Nope. Just erased from the canon like Enzom or Kirblar or hundreds of other "prominent members."

These people all have one single method, throwing a tantrum and expecting everyone else to immediately try to appease them. Half the time they don't even bother throwing around their stat bumps from the progressive stack. Just stamp your feet, get aggressive, insult people and expect them to grovel for your forgiveness. The more passive aggressive you get and make your threats in places where only people who will go to look for them is just more proof of how horrible things are for you. The entire forum should be knowing my personal complaints and taking up arms in my name or else they're showing their whole ass and wow, don't you feel bad that I don't respect you anymore? The staff especially should be seeing my posts and knowing what I'm on about and making clear what they plan to do about it. If not, well, they're just making clear how I'M NOT WANTED. And they'll really regret it if I actually do leave, laying awake staring into the night sky with their dark thoughts.
