Spider-Man No Way Home
tl;dr I forgot places open at 11 AM here and it was too hot to wait outside. Movie theaters have mini theaters in the lobbies for trailers. So I sat inside and watched a couple. The new Spider-Man looks alright and I didn’t really remember the last one. Decided to rewatch it. You can really tell it was shot during peak COVID. “New York” and “people” don’t really exist. Everything is set on small sets or indoors against green screen. The main location is Jon Favreau’s apartment. Some of the actors are clearly not next to one another. Just a really weird vibe throughout. Anyway, Willem Dafoe saves it.

Watched that Iron Maiden doc. It was pretty good. Although I had to laugh at the hypocrisy of fucking Gene Simmon's where's grunge now? comment. Like he didn't try to jump on that bandwagon.

Iron Maiden doco was indeed good. Gene Simmons is indeed a fucking arsehole.

While you're at it, add the Diego Maradona and King Otto documentaries too.
The Odyssey was mind blowing. Holy fucking shit what a movie
![]() A lot of people will absolutely hate it though. It is very Nolan. Exposition, Exposition, Exposition. What if Tennet meets Dark Knight Rises but Homers Odyssey.

So a combination of his worst two (and categorically bad) movies?
It’s great if you're a nolan fan and you enjoy subwoofers

Interstellar is a big old turd, told that film to fuck off twice when watching it Inception is another one that doesn't hold up on a re-watch. I remember seeing that in the cinema thinking it was great then I watched it again around the time dunkirk came out and realised it was actual nonsense and 80% of the film was unconvincing explanations for the nonsense. The worst thing being they had to fall backwards through water or something and that being a serious problem they all had to deal with. People try to edify him as some kind of modern genius but the actual substance of nearly all his films is silly wibble wabble and it gets even worse when he makes a science film, except oppenheimer because thats a real thing

He's a lightning rod for psuedo-intellectuals who try to replace a personality with film fandom. Just like the rabid Tarantino fans.
He really makes popcorn flicks for people who can't lower themselves to admit they really wanna watch capeshit. Memento was great. Batman Begins was good. Inception was ok as a visual spectacle. Insomnia was good. The Prestige I don't understand the praise. The Dark Knight was about 30 minutes too long and The Dark Knight Rises was bad AND too long. Interstellar was boring. I haven't seen Dunkirk, Tenet or Oppenheimer and The Odyssey can fuck off too.

I find it a little endearing how Nolan hasn’t buckled to any criticisms across his career. Tenet was like, this is ostensibly a summer action blockbuster with the most flat, impactless, dull action scenes. A decade after Inception and his Batman movies, and it is that same awkwardness where a guy gets shot, the sound and reaction don’t match up. The stuntman jumps back a second too late or early.
Anyway, I looked up when The Odyssey is showing here. Second week of September… if I’m waiting that long and the movie is stinker, it may be the worst 9/11 I can think of. |
