Now even colleagues are questioning what was going on and demand Cambridge to take accountability. 

The University of Cambridge’s leaders deserve blame for the “grotesque racism unleashed” by Jason Arday’s appointment as professor, according to academics calling for the university to hold an independent inquiry.

The Guardian understands that senior dons at Cambridge are circulating a joint letter calling for an inquiry into the processes and circumstances around Arday being given the position, with many suggesting the university wanted a “quick fix” to improve the diversity of its staff.

Even though it does serve actual, real world value, higher ed has some kind of longstanding existential insecurity that just sort of sprawled out into a giant apparatus of...i dunno...honarary-ness, arbitrary ladder climbing, awards for the the intangible act of simply thinking, and on and on and on. 

I'm sure the highest levels of academia anywhere you go have more in common with Jason Arday than they want anyone to know (or are willing to admit). That's why you see the wagon circle first, and then scapegoating follwed by a bunch of investigation announcements.

It really just keeps going. In addition to the benign brain tumor that erased his PHD thesis from his memory he also had a car accident as a teenager and spend three month in a coma but was fully aware of his surrounding. The doctors wanted to turn off life support but he recovered miraculously. Apparently this was considered too much by the publisher of his memoir and they left it out.
