I do believe that there are psychological effects that occur when groups of people are invested in media that's being heavily marketed and advertised to them and then must proceed to co-exist, and that the emotions involved may far exceed the ultimate perceived worth of that media once enough time has passed to review the media with less influence from a hyped up environment. It's the nature of modern entertainment. The only things any individual can do is not be an asshole, either by deliberately mocking people for being invested and shitting on them to get a rise, or by shutting out the people who aren't as excited by victimizing one's self and framing critique as a personal attack, and further to work at separating one's emotional investment from any incongruous outcomes in reception and quality. It's fine to like games that others don't, or to dislike games others do. I'm a Sonic fan; I'd know.

My wife

My cousin is a popular influencer that I'm sure many know here. She's Italian, makes ~30k a month modeling clothes on social media. Says she's single on social media but secretly married with a kid. Literally no one in her social media world knows. Crazy.

The tricks she uses to convince people she's on trips is smart. She'll go to Paris for a day. Change outfits in restrooms. Take hundreds of pictures in different outfits. Go back home and slow roll posting the pictures pretending to be in Paris for weeks.

My wife is not an influencer but she does the same trick for her own photos of vacations. She doesn't even post them online, she just like to have photos of her in outfits she usually doesn't have the occasion to wear but when on vacations

I'm just used to these conversations and know the more you veer into saying it's how it is the more it invites a string of posts denying it that I don't have the time/care for at this point. Gwen in Across is trans to me and I think it's pretty clear, but anything short of confirmation in big bubble writing will have cis people running in to "um actually" you.

It's like with The Amazing Digital Circus snd the trans colors in Chapter 7 in Celeste. The Spider-Verse movie is doing everything except Gwen looking at the camera and say "I'm Trans" while the blue, white and pink colors was already following her throughout the trilogy


It's very subtle, like a Cat 5 Hurricane that's about to make landfall

But Marvel and Sony are resistant on that because their cowards

we've already lost so much in gaming due to this lowest common denominator design, it already happened over a decade ago

oblivion lost a bunch of mechanics from morrowind, and skyrim lost a bunch of mechanics from oblivion

basically elder scrolls ditched stats and kept skills, while fallout ditched skills and kept stats, and both led to large holes in the design that has made the games less satisfying

like there being practically no skill-based dialogue checks in fallout 4, the thing everyone loved from new vegas...y'know, being able to say or do something insightful because you're good with medical, or hacking, or lockpicking, or energy weapons, unique things based around YOUR character design which lead to paths that only you can take, and might lead to a repeat playthrough where you skill up differently to see other options
