This is still a fucking stupid reason to root for something to fail. Gonna be honest, as much as you're tired of fans getting upset of people not liking what others like, I'm equally tired of people wanting things to go away that they and their respective bubble don't care.

You don't like superhero films? Cool. Totally get it. You want to criticize the films? Absolutely get it. I've had problems with MCU films in the past and DC films. I've had problems with Sony Spider-Man films in the past. I have family and friends who can't stand the films. I absolutely get why they are not someone's cup of tea.

It's absolutely child-ish to say something shouldn't exist because it's both popular and not something that a ton of people should like. Because a specific group of enthusiasts and a specific internet bubble does not care for it. To actively root for it, even if you're saying it's not because of a woman led/poc led film, is still absolutely childish.

Promoting and directing people to films you think deserve more attention is way more effective towards growing audiences and getting more films like that. It happened for Everything Everywhere All At Once. It happened for Poor Things. It happened for Past Lives. Godzilla Minus One. Oppenheimer (even though Nolan has become more of a brand name director with General Audiences these days). Ect.

So I don't really care if it's not because of a women led/poc led film status (even though I absolutely think it was louder because of that). And if it was a genre I didn't care for, I would be saying the exact same thing. I hate horror, but if I saw the exact same thing happening to that genre? I'd be making the exact same argument. It's absolutely stupid to root for things to not exist, rather than just ignore it and promote things you like and want others to see.

The irony of this being posted on a website that has a small community doing that to Stellar Blade.

The music is fantastic, and gives me Nier and GITS vibes

The overall "vibe" of the game is great

Visually, the game has a certain soul which this generation has widely lacked. Characters are designed around being visually aesthetic and appealing, and the world feels extremely immersive, as well as charming.

There was clearly a lot of love and care put into Adam and Eve's designs, and I've missed fantastical character designs like this

Eve has this certain realism and sensitivity to her, and I love it. Her screams while fighting feel realistic, and not particularly "heroic" and I really appreciate it.

The animations are extremely well done, and clearly have a lot of love put into them (the vending machine animation is a great example)

Camps are comfy and also have this "soul"

Combat is fun, and personally, my input time was fine (then again, my TV is optimised for PS5)

I've had a PS5 since launch, and this is the first exclusive to actually amaze me. I think Sony should take notes from this game, because this team has done extremely well.

I think folks are taking what he's saying wrong, as he's not wrong. The point is that it's no longer simply politics and disagreements on policy, it's all become us vs them, good vs bad. Politics has become more enflamed than ever and been taken over by extremes. Things are worse than ever, it's no longer a simple disagreement of government policy, there is literal lines in the sand being drawn, people being torn apart.

My problem with his centrist view on politics is it basically completely ignores shit like one side trying to make trans people just not exist, if that isn't a one side is bad scenario then idk what is. He doesn't seem to have a grasp on what's at stake rights wise when it comes to current politics. Like saying trans people should exist shouldn't been a political extreme but people are turning it into just that now.

He didn't state a "centrist view" and at least in the quote Hap posted never indicated his own political position. He suggested a reasonable approach to not inflaming conflict between draconian sects.

For a long time it baffled me how PoliGAF was convinced I was a troll who didn't actually believe my positions. I eventually figured out that it's because these types can't grasp someone holding an extreme radical goal (anarchism) but preferring moderate, even conservative, evolutionary means to getting there.

It's the binary thinking again, if you aren't for immediate revolution that establishes the utopia you're for the status quo and thus against the utopia. Hence why centrists or even any not most extreme leftists possible are therefore far-right. They simply refuse to fathom the idea that a revolution might make things worse both short term and long term because they're completely ignorant of history. You have to wonder if they even grasp anything at all about the French Revolution and Russian Revolution to take two of the most prominent examples. Other than the whole guillotines and mass murders fetishes. It's not a political ideology, it's spite at people they think have wronged them personally.

You can see quite fervently, Nepenthe is a great example, that these people don't believe our current state is the result of long processes of human evolution slowly figuring things out but instead an evil imperfection imposed on us by the Chud for sinister reasons. And because most people's souls aren't pure enough.

Don't downplay what these people are doing, they know exactly what they're doing. They see a way to hurt folx and have plausible deniability about it. "I'm just talking about the video game." It's blatant and really says a lot about them being sociopaths. When people are hurting, staff has got to move.

I think the staff post has had an unintended effect of segmenting the discussion. Probably also why this thread is absorbing so much of the Stellar Blade criticism. Hence why the only people left in the thread are those who really like it, leading to the harsh whiplash in posting.

I don't think the staff post had much to do with that. It's been the norm for most threads like this (whether it was the Cyberpunk thread, or some others) to have some users pointing out the hugely problematic elements in the game, and other users going -"Day 1, can't wait". You can bet many of those members have some very unsavory opinions on the issue (beyond general apathy), but they won't share them to not get banned. Instead they'll fill the thread with praise and hype to drown out the criticism.

Finally, let me make this weird analogy. When the Harry Potter universe game Hogwarts Legacy came out last year and became the biggest video game hit of 2023, a friend of mine got very upset about it all. The video game media had decided that the game was a referendum on JK Rowling and her controversial views on trans identity, long before it was released, and refused to consider it in any other terms. And so when the game because a huge hit, my friend took that exact narrative to heart - that the people who had bought the game were expressing their views on trans people in doing so, which meant that some 22 million people (at least) were choosing Harry Potter over trans rights. But I consoled her by saying that I would be surprised if more than one in ten of those people had the slightest idea that there was any such controversy at all. Normies love Harry Potter and normies don’t care about culture war. It may very well be the case that a good number of them would side with Rowling if given the choice, but I’m totally convinced that most people who bought that game never even thought to make that connection.

The falseties of the Sony exclusive quote aside, the language that was clearly intended to be dismissive of the concerns around misogyny was the exact language used by the anti-feminist chuds championing the game for very specific reasons outside of the game being good.

There is simply no other way to take the praise for her 'aesthetics' and especially the fucking weirdly precise comment that she doesn't scream like a heroic heroine.

They were trying to be cute and knew full well what they were doing. We've been through this song and dance before multiple times with Cyberpunk and Hogwarts, where you can see the difference in real praise and false praise that is purely intended to rile people up.

The leadup to Cyberpunk 2077 was pretty harrowing, and it was full of that kind of hype and praise.
