The Zelda game is making them lose their minds. 

Am I crazy for assuming this was just "start simple" instead of "start sexist?"

Like what sorts of objects can they summon to show a simple concept besides a table/bed type shape. Would it have been better if it was a nondescript block?

In a world where people are trying to to force "trad wives" and other sexist bullshit, I think it's important. People keep hanging up on the fucking table. It's not JUST the table. I don't care that she can summon things to fight for her, so can Link, so that's not the problem.
I just had to go no contact with o family member who has gone full Chud and gotten deep into this fucking stupid alpha male of the household shit and "women can't do this or that" nonsense.

There is a concerted effort of "influencers" and conservatives in the US forcing a specific imagery of women. And honestly, I find it kind of troublesome that people either don't see the potential issue or are intentionally obfuscating the discussion by jokingly bringing up the table.

If people want to think it was a mistake from Nintendo, fine, but I refuse to be gaslit that it isn't a problem when even other people see it. The amount of corporate defending going on blows my mind.

I state why I believe it's an issue. It's not JUST the table. 3 out of the 4 items first shown are house/homemaking related items. It's a bad initial reveal of her powers. They had a litany of items to use, but chose, a table, bed and storage crate.

I don't think Nintendo is intentionally trying to be sexist. They've had some pretty inclusive representation in their games, but I still find the framing problematic. The trailer shows a rock, something we can inarguably say is is a simple item, being used to bash an enemy in the head. That is awesome. Why not start there? Figuring out environmental puzzles isn't something exclusive to Zelda or her wisdom. Link does it all the time, but IMO the trailer's order of operations leaves a lot to be desired. They showed some really cool gameplay, but those few seconds really rubbed me the wrong way.

I can see all the "real" Zelda games purity discussions that the future holds and im already tired of it.

The main thread for the game has basically just devolved into that now, and all the discussion for the game here is just about that.

This is one of those times where I think I'm going to just check out and ignore all discussion of the game and buy and play it when it comes out, because it looks cool to me.

Sometimes this is the best way to approach games. I am trying to do more media/discussion blackouts for stuff I'm interested in lately. I haven't even read a single thread about the Elden Ring expansion in months.

Like I'll be honest, the weapon fusion mechanic in TotK was a novelty at best. It almost never actually made combat easier or better, it was just novel that they let you do things. But 9 times out of 10 it didn't really transform the combat in an appreciable way.
