That sounds hyper anti intellectual, so maybe Nepenthe? Or DigitalOP?

Pretty sure it was already decided before Paris 2024 that breaking won't return for LA 2028. Same with boxing. The IOC seems to kind of play around with adding various sports right now

It's funny how the actual break dance scene seems perfectly diverse. Black guys, white guys, asian guys, latino guys... but they'd rather have it gatekept.

Was about to make a hacky joke about darts in the Olympics. But there are genuine lobbyists who might very well make it happen.

I mean, it's also the Olympics! Showcasing diverse global backgrounds across international sporting competitions is kinda the whole deal.
"I saw someone of a race I didn't expect competing in an Olympic event!" Uh...I certainly hope you did?

You know, I didn’t bother clicking on that until you mentioned what was happening in it.

Elon Musk’s TransDaughter is as stupid as her dad.
Everyone in the Musk does Trump drama is retarded. Musk, Trump, Vivian and the European Union. I never see so many embarrassing people discussing serious issues.
It reminds me of all the hoopla because Tucker interviewed Putin and all we learned about was the history of Prince Rurik.
Apart from dropping a few new bangers and learning more about his spotify playlist and golf game what could the EU possibly be worried about that Donald will say to Elon Musk?
Elon won the retard submit.

Messo fantasizing about taking down Valve:
Quote:Valve being an American company can get away with allowing hate speech because in the USA hate speech is only criminalised when there are threats of violence or a criminal activity. Even if AOC brought Valve to Congress to testify, it would probably at most end up in a stern talking to rather than any tangible consequences. Gotta wait until hate speech laws get changed to get Valve to change, and so they can receive sanctions. Cause they sure as hell won't change of their own volition due to Gabe's political stances.

Messy should just give AOC his YouTube gamer dossiers to take it to Congress.

Its funny how people say you are mean and shouldn't criticize her but gtfo, I'll talk shit about how awful she was since I know people that break dance and now it's got a bad rep
Most likely will be excluded from now on in the Olympics
What a mess Raygun is
L
Everyone acts like no one has access to film or footage of break dancers, gotta realize if you can't perform like them then you might not do well in the Olympics tazmin wrote:There's a very clear difference between what those POC showed in effort in those sports and what Raygun did considering she consistently scored 0 out 0 and everyone knows it. Do you think if this was a random ass competition and not Olympics, people especially black people including I would be reacting that she "murdered" the art form? Nope we wouldn't care
Anyway I'm tired of the dismissal about this The fuck is all this that she's a bad representation/mockery of the dance and hasn't put in effort?
"Now it has a bad rep" is such a politically focused argument. You want the dancers that only make the culture look good while ignoring the verstalie and diverse artists? Or do you want authentic representation? Beause that's what Raygun discusses in her research.
Did she underperform? Yes
Was the quality of her performance low? Yes
Do people laugh at what she did because it came across corny? Yes
Was it a misrepresentation of the artform? Absolutely fucking not
There is space in Breaking for dancers that are more abstract, non-tradiational and less focused on competition. They are considered more social dancers (cypher bboys/bgirls) that dance with breaking moves to explore ideas, bounce energy off others and don't care how well executed, technically impressive or intricate their moves are. Quite frankly, those dancers are more representative of the original roots of the kids from the late 1970s/early 1980s. She did signature moves of the pioneers from the 80s in sync with the music, but Tiktok wants to label it rolling around for the memes. That side of the dance is a significant part of the culture, and Raygun discusses this in her paper about the sportification of breaking; how that side of the dance doesn't translate to the competition stage as its less about entertainment and skill, and more about social interaction between dancers. She is incredibly informed and understanding of the culture, but one sloppy performance and suddenly she doesn't know anything? Miss me with that shit.
How did a social dancer like Raygun get to such a high level competition? It happens all the time. Sometimes those dancers perform well. Aleef The Deep from Brazil made it to the Red Bull World Finals. He, like Raygun, is more abstract, plays with themes and artistry, and also got zero votes. The way Aleef, Raygun and countless other dancers decide to dance isn't exciting on a large stage or meant to be impressive on a technical scale. Its meant for a small circle vibing to the music with friends. Its the same difference between stand up comedians that tour arenas with sets, and comedians who like to do crowd work at bars. The Canadian commentary even said, if she was in the club right now, they'd be loving it.
Secondly, she took a big gamble. In her post competition interview, she stated that she wasn't going to be able to beat the other younger dancers on atheltic terms, so she decided to put all her energy towards the artistry. This is a very standard battle strategy. She wasn't going to play her oppponent's game, she was going to higlight the elements her opponent chose to ignore. Did it work? No, but not everything works out. That doesn't make her a murderer of the art form. Just because she admitted she can't be them athletically, doesn't imply she can't bring anything to the table. The focus on athletic ability alone is the exact sportification of the dance that Breaking culture is worried about. You can also find the qualifiers that she took part in and she genuinely won all of them. She didn't finesse nothing.
I've been breaking since I was 12 years old for 20 years in Toronto and am black. I know Phil Wizard, Switch B (the canadian announcer on CBC Gem), and train alongside three members of Team Canada that didn't participate this year. I wrote my MA Thesis and have publications on breaking forms. You can argue Raygun is not good at competiting and the quality of her performance was poor. That's fair. But almost all arguments that she is a bad representation of the artform and commenting on her validity as a Breaker is uninformed about what the culture actually is.
If you're mad about how other people are reacting to it, then be mad about them and their uninformed position. Raygun isn't the problem. The problem is how the public decided to react to a very real element of Breaking culture and believing it is fake/wrong. Like it or not, that is a part of breaking. Its not all beautiful, and it doesn't always execute, but it gives space for self expression and we always value that.

I think Hentai Games curators have bigger followers that the anti woke idiot curator.
That thread was bumped by the nutso Ash_Greytree.
Quote:Steam's Community Features are being weaponized by bad actors and have been for a long while. Valve isn't doing anything to clamp down on those bad actors. That was the reason this resurgence happened earlier this year. Valve is complicit in all of this, and needs to be held to account and made to do something about their willing and knowing enabling of bigots on their store and community pages. I've been a broken record on that in this thread, I know. But it needs to happen if there's any hope of things getting better.
I wish that the games press could interview Gabe Newell or someone else high up at the company, and ask them about what their thoughts are on the bigotry that occurs on their store, show them printouts or screenshots of the message boards and the curators and more. Something, anything to keep the pressure on Newell and his company for more than a couple of weeks so it doesn't get memory-holed, like every controversy surrounding Valve and Steam over the years has been.
All she does is bitching about Valve.
