if the glasses are nested, you're mostly good

any glass with the interior exposed could get gnats or flies or even gross dust drifting into them

and you can say well you're supposed to rinse the glass before using it, who cares if a fly walked inside it

and to that the rebuttal is well yeah if you put them face down you can just rinse the rim too

lol neither, I'm not calling anything stupid or shitting on her work or shitting on the olympics audience either. I certainly didn't watch the breaking performances and I had almost entirely missed the memes and chatter about her as I'm wrapping up my defense. I'm just making a tongue-in-cheek joke that I'm not surprised "one of my kind" got so cerebral about their passion/work that this all happened the way it did and people didn't connect with what she was doing. It's all too common unfortunately for academics and researchers, but I say it all lightheartedly, as even I struggle sometimes to connect with my audience depending on who they are. This was her one shot on the biggest stage though, so maybe she considers this a success (after all, who googled PhDs in her field until this moment) or an unfortunate shaming of her specialty, I'm not really sure what she's thinking after all this press.

But it's like the stereotypical character trope (like the nerdy scientists in Unstable that explain too much and then get asked to "speak in English" and then they blurt out what they mean with as much brevity as possible) that is too smart for their own good lol, very few people on earth will watch her routine and work to piece together the layers of intention and meticulous thought behind her actions.
