I'm really bad at it myself because I usually don't like imposing on people. When I left the city where most of my friends were the first time, I only remembered to text a small group of my friends and basically all of the other friendships withered on the vine, but I could never tell how much of that came from me not being good at texting people, and how much came from the fact that being friends with actors means 98% of your relationships are 100% transactional and instantly evaporate the moment you're no longer valuable for potentially getting each other stage time. When I came back to the city a year later the overwhelming majority of that friend group had moved on and only a small fraction reestablished serious ties with me, mostly consisting of the people I did still text semi-regularly with while I was out of town.

Now that I've left again, I talk to even less of them than I did the last time I left, but that's also because at this point in my life I'm pretty much done with that lifestyle and don't have any energy to put into people who don't have any energy for me.

That said, you can talk to a lot of people on the left --- from center-left to progressive far-left -- who spend the lion's share of their efforts attacking Democrats, and if you dig deep, no actually even if you just scratch a little bit, you find that what is motivating that for a lot of people is an absolute refusal to believe that Trump (and Republicans under him) are actually all that dangerous.

I should have just spent that time playing Silent Hill 2 Remake like i intended. It's significantly less scary than the shit I've read the last few pages.

It blows my mind that in 2024, there are still some folks who think that Trump "won't be that bad," or that our democracy isn't at stake should he win next month.

It's been said before, but I'll throw my 2 cents in as well. Trump winning will be disastrous, and dangerous, for a great many people both domestically, and abroad. This is an election we literally cannot afford to lose.

And I'm not just thinking about my Black ass. I think about my nieces and great nieces, my sisters. My cousins. My family and friends and coworkers that are Muslim, Jewish, LGBTQ+, are immigrants from all over the world who either migrated here, or their families migrated here for a better life, veterans, active service members, disabled, and parts of other marginalized groups, etc, etc, and what a 2nd Trump term means for them.

This isn't a fucking game for them. This isn't a "maybe it won't be so bad if Trump wins," for them.

This is a "my life will be made irrevocably worse under Trump if he wins." "I might be killed if he wins." Hell, "I might still be killed if he loses, because the hate mob he has fomented for damn near a decade are the types to target me in light of a loss."
