I'd say it sounds like all he cares about is that people in the same circles care as much as he does. What good does them caring now do? Trump's not going to listen to them. Biden didn't, but Harris showed she was at least open to the idea. They used her refusal to throw Biden under the bus as evidence that she was no different even though she was the only person open to caring that they care.
