The JD Vance response reminds me of Norm MacDonald, knowing he was dying, talking of the Christian concept of grace in his final years. Norm also detested Hilary Clinton's use of deplorable and irredeemable, finding it in conflict of the idea of redemption and grace. 

It's always a setup for a joke, but it seemed plain to him that you are unelectable if you have no grace and show no redemption. Not just personally unelectable, but politically unelectable. The people will reject you.
