Gen X had it easy, they were basically given houses and jobs, so when they hear millennials complaining they think "well I managed, they should just work hard like I did".

Also they can tend to feel like efforts to be considerate to different groups (IE not casually use slurs, not discriminate based on race, gender, disability) etc which were largely pushed forward by millennials are attacking them. It was acceptable and routine to make homophobic, racist and otherwise distasteful jokes in the 80s and 90s.

Edit: yeah it's basically a lot of social values formed by watching too much TV and not having the internet when growing up, and then later being specifically targeted when they are online.

I guess I missed the memo basically giving me a house and job, while growing up poor white trash in a trailer park.
