I've tried most of the modern YS games but the only one I ever liked was oath in felghana

Oath is the best, for sure.

The only other two of its style are Ys 6 and Origin. Ys 6 came first, then Oath is a remake of Ys 3, and Origin is a spinoff of sorts. I liked those more than 7 onward. 

I will say, from the demo Ys X is a nice change to the formula. Only haven’t bought it because they announced an updated version.
