2012 redux. All the donors were begging for Rick Perry and others to join the race, only for them to flop.
Trump's general election problem is that he's utterly toxic amongst women and suburban voters. We've now had multiple elections where large groups of people show up solely to vote against him and his recommended candidates. I'm seeing Biden ads in Michigan already, nailing him on abortion. I don't care what random polls say right now: Trump is fucked unless the economy simply implodes. And given that we're on pace for 6% GDP growth and inflation keeps falling going into the holidays...I doubt that happens.
The other problem with Trump is that some of the important states he won in 2016 are now nearly completely controlled by democrats, who are ensuring early voting will be open for the election. He's not winning MI or PA. And without PA he can't get to 270. He's probably not winning WI.
