Preaching to the converted here, but the fact that so many people form their opinions about what real life is actually like by watching fictional television shows is astounding.

There's literally an episode of The Thick Of It where they have to brief the minister (the first one that they had to get replaced in later seasons because he was a nonce) on random pop culture TV zeitgeist so he can appear more human to voters, not that he gave a shit about whos shagging who in eastenders.
