I think it's even less than "you're a this or that supporter"
It's just dick measuring and posturing...they might as well be exchanging "yo mama" jokes or playing the dozens. Whoever cries first loses!
They're talking about I/P now, but functionally it could be (and, I assume, occasionally is) about anything else.
