tbh I never had experience with a personal trainer. Any form or technique issues were corrected by friends using constructive slurs. If you’re starting out older, it may be worthwhile. Potential injuries past 30 are easier and last longer.
That said, it’s pretty easy to set goals and find motivation. Every week you add a little weight or a couple more reps. There’s a very real feeling of improving and getting stronger that feeds the desire to keep going. And if you let your ego take over, you’ll quickly realize you can’t bullshit yourself. You’re forced to have realistic expectations.
