Steam is doing a demo disc situation for upcoming games. Some I tried seem cool.

Shovel Knight people making Link’s Awakening with the now standard Dark Souls corpse run mechanic.

Streets of Rage 4 people making an original fantasy beat em up. Progression is a bit like Hades. It’s a roguelike with branching paths and perma upgrades. Combat isn’t as tight or skill based as SOR4. Has a basic parry system but because it expects you to do multiple runs and paths, it’s less involved?

Ninja Gaiden from the Blasphemous people. It’s a 2D action game with levels. Not Metroid or Hollow Knight or anything beyond it. It does have a gimmick where you’re encouraged to kill enemies in a certain order. Killing glowing enemies gives you a powered up strike that kills big enemies in one hit. Beating the demo lets you try hard more which is a lot more like the NES games in enemy number and aggression.
