Total. React streamer. Destruction.

Popcorn

you have to officially copyright something, filing it with the copyright office and paying the registration fee, before you can sue for copyright infringement

essentially it's to make sure that the office finds nothing wrong with your claim that the work is yours, in order to not waste the court's time

this is what stymied karla ortiz in her lawsuit against various AI image generators, the judge threw out most of her claims because she hadn't bothered to formally copyright her own works which she said were being copied

I always find it funny that you have to officially copyright stuff over there (Benji please correct me if I'm wrong). Copyright is implied here. There's no need to register anything.

from what I understand, copyright is still implied here, you still have an implied copyright over everything you make the moment you make it, it's just that if you get embroiled in legal matters you're going to have to be able to prove that you have copyright over it, and having it officially filed is the best way to do that

presumably the value of the assumed copyright is to maintain a general culture of respecting others' works so things don't have to rise to the level of a court case

even in other countries, if there's a dispute over copyright, surely there's some chain of events to prove it's yours and you made it, some sort of minor burden other than just your word
