but it doesn't start at Steam, we're already far down the slope
it started when payment processors were deputized as pseudo law enforcement when they were told they could get in trouble for facilitating illegal activities, and once they started making judgement calls about bad risks and possibly bad activities, it's been a long, slow slide
they've been doing this shit for decades to all sorts of groups, mostly on the fringes where few people noticed, it only recently started gaining attention when conservatives started talking about being debanked without recourse
a large, well-funded, influential company like Steam getting to the point where they throw up their hands and say "our TOS is now whatever the payment processors decide in the future" is the point that everyone begins to notice
not specifically related to this steam thing, there's currently a US bill going around that will at least attempt to force them to provide fair access to banking when your activities aren't illegal, so that's something
