Progressives love to project their beliefs onto the noble savages they're trying to save/protect (using "savages" as the trope, not as literal savages).

Here, you see it most often with progressive feminists trying to sell the islamic veil as a symbol of women's liberation. How does it make sense? Well, if you allow a veiled woman to teach a class of kids, it might allow her to emancipate from her controlling husband who forces her to wear such veil. And seeing more veiled women everywhere is a good thing because it shows they're getting out of the house and taking part in society.



Also, it's big fuck you to the colonialist whites, but that's a bonus.
