There's this weird argument that if a fan is critical of a white character being changed to another race, they're racist. Nah that guy is just consistently a stickler for 1:1 shit. I'm not that guy but can understand and respect him without calling him racist unless he's actually racist based on other shit.
To me personally I don't really care unless it's just bad casting or stupid. Or even in case like HOTD, which most fans enjoyed, no one really cares about the Velaryons being black except the most joyless book people. Does my lore brain think "they can't be black, it fucks up the entire point about pure Velaryon features..."? Sure. But it was damn good casting of a damn good actor, and he's nailing the role so I can't complain. Books are the books, shows are the show. I'm the type of person who just wants the SPIRIT of the source material respected. GOT didn't do that at all in later seasons.
I remember when the most recent Fantastic Four movie came out, I said I hated that Torch was a black guy, and people puckered their buttholes.
What I hated was that it was just Torch that was black. Sue is Torch's brother. Why wasn't she black too? You could almost write that board meeting word for word in your head after seeing the cast.
"We should make one of the Four black, that would make our movie stand out."
"Okay, which one? Reed?"
"Are you fucking crazy? He's the main character and the main love interest, he can't be black"
"What about the Thing?"
"Bitch, you don't see his actual skin for most of the movie, that negates the point"
"Well, that only leaves Sue and Johnny. Do you want to make both of them black?"
"Two black people AND an interracial relationship? Are you fucking crazy?"
"I guess... either Johnny or Sue could be adopted or some shit, fine"
"Great, it's settled. Now let's brainstorm ways to completely and utterly piss all over Dr. Doom"
