It's not "demanding." It's just criticism.

What I think is the main 'break' in this thread is that people can't seem to abide with the idea that an action being inconsiderate, or flawed, or resultant in negative consequences, does not automatically make that action malicious. Nor does it make the party behind that action into something 'awful'. Of course it's "demanding," if you think criticism is in some way a major indictment of Team Cherry's entire being.

And, yes, there are systemic issues. But in much the same way you think I'm brushing those aside (I'm not), those who take the "TC owes no-one anything," stance are, themselves, brushing aside any concept of personal responsibility when it comes to said systemic issues. Which - frankly - is part of why those issues persist. Everyone thinks their own personal situation means they can abdicate their own personal responsibility. Everyone. Including myself, in many instances. What matters is not just sticking your nose up at any and all criticism because some other power, often esoteric and much larger than yourself, is the one actually preventing things from becoming a utopia.

It's not just having to delay things that is the only issue here, it's that the delay has had to be done under such short notice. Two weeks, when it comes to business planning, is a very - very short period of time. Contracts have been signed, embargoes agreed upon, review copies sent out, and so on. That now all needs to change, and fast, if these developers want what's best for their games. Hell, for some of them financial provisions many now need to be sorted out so they can even last another two months without their expected revenue.

And whilst I think the issues with news outlets are lesser in the grand scheme of things, it's true there that having only two weeks to prepare for coverage of what is undoubtedly going to be one of the biggest games of the year is not great. That's a lot of plans changed, commitments broken, and more.

And you're right. Even with a two month reveal-to-release period some games would have caused some issues... but it'd be disingenious to say that the impact wouldn't have been much smaller. Which - ultimately - is the issue here. It's not that Silksong's impact is inherently bad because, well, that's just a natural consequence of releasing such a gargantuan title. It's that the two week period is just so very small in the grand scheme of things that it's causing the maximum amount of impact.

"Responsibility," doesn't just mean "what one is obligated to do."

I mean... I think the article bringing it up was corny, but what do you think "with great power, comes great responsibility," even means if you're taking such a legalistic view of the term? Was Uncle Ben reciting legal case law stating that, if Peter Parker were to hypothetically gain the powers of a Spider, he would be legally obligated to protect the people of New York from various costumed villains?

I just want to point out that Plum stacks shelves for a living.
