It's faith, it's not supposed to be rational. You're supposed to trust in God and his purpose. "God works in mysterious ways" is another way of saying you can't understand his intent and you're not supposed to.

I personally would argue that this is incoherent towards the claim that God desires us to have free will, if his purpose cannot be discerned by us then God is being illogical and that seems absurd if we are made in his image and are supposed to follow his unarticulated tenets. But there's a lot of Christianity, or Islam, that simply doesn't see this as a contradiction. That's just faith, we who don't have it probably can't understand.

It's a comfort because it says there is a plan. For the same reason you guys have to believe the Right Side of History is a thing and that Zionists and Gamergate are undermining History's plan.
