Isn’t that the point, they are sacrificial lambs and The Boss knows it. The Boss is also a broken person herself. The whole point of Big Boss arc is that he is chasing a shadow of a person he didn’t fully understood.
they aren't strangers who just showed up for this one mission as expendables, they had worked together for ages, Boss and Sorrow even had a baby. Fortunately Sorrow is never characterized so we don't have to question the boss's life choices even further, he could be entirely reasonable by comparison to the rest
seriously, imagining daily life with this unit when not actively on a mission, it has to be like Archer, with the Boss constantly shaking her head as the Fear complains that the Pain's bees keep stinging him while he's trying to make his poison darts and the Fury won't stop setting off the smoke alarms which might wake up the End and he only has like a month left to live while conscious
they are not believable as real people she tolerates and works with as a leader and mother figure
