As usual, you didn't have to say anything at all. Just a rambling "both sides" non-answer where he makes it clear that he's not MAGA but still lives in a dreamworld where the two sides are simply different opinions, despite the clear evils on one side very much overshadowing the negatives of the other.

I think it's important to recognize that a rich white person spouting off "let's all work together" nonsense does not make them conservative, as some in this thread are implying. What he's saying he is very much a stereotypical privileged white liberal take to have.

They support dems and they donate to good causes but when it comes to calling out the fascists on the other side, they don't want to piss off potential product consumers.

Writing comments like this off as "must be conservative" kind of ignores the reality of how many liberals actually feel.

There's no need to downplay this, especially as there's a lot of Canada-specific context here that makes what he says especially damning. He's talking about a country and ideology that threatened Canada with invasion. The reality that's most important here is just how utterly ghoulish and morally bankrupt that honestly is, especially given at the same event people were giving speeches about resisting that shit and his response was 'but maybe learn from them instead of fight?'

When the implicit question is 'how do you feel about working in America in the wake of Canada being threatened with invasion?', the both-sides let's just learn from each other point is so, so much worse. ESPECIALLY from someone who uses Canada as part of his brand to make millions.

As a Canadian, you absolutely did. I appreciate that it was not intentional, perhaps coming out of instinct to want to believe an actor who is quite beloved and is probably in a lot of movies you like isn't so terrible on a level beyond the average, but there is aggravating context here that makes it beyond the usual liberal fence-sitting. Equating it to just usual average liberal attitudes from that US lens absolutely downplays it and disregards specific cultural and political context, even without meaning to.

We're talking about someone who claims to be proud of being from a country, who profits from that association, being at an event where the literal prime minister is giving a speech about standing up to the country that threatened to invade us, and then gave an utterly spineless 'maybe we should learn from the people who are threatening to invade us?'

I appreciate that you didn't intend to, but you did in effect. Not being Canadian, not having that perspective, I understand it. But as someone with that perspective, please do learn from that and just what makes this so much more damning than the usual and already-lamentable shitty lib actor stances.
