my closest guess to the situation she is trying to claim is that since she was paying with debit the hotel charged up front for incidentals based on the length of the stay. all hotels do this for debit cause you can't do pending charges on those cards. 

the "fraud" bit is probably her claiming no one told her, no way that actually happened. no way any of this happened probably and i'm the stupid one.
