Upon asking Terrace whether they intended for Frankie to be perceived as transgender, she responded with the following: “Frankie is cis, she just has a lot of nicknames. I have friends who call me Dan, DBO, Danny. Just happens sometimes.”

They believe everything that has happened to Frankie so far points to her being trans, and any developments that don’t deliver on that promise are evidence of transphobia.

A lot of LGBTQ+ people saw Frankie in the pilot and saw a part of themselves in her, whether it be how she looks, speaks, or the things she’s been through in her life. Those are valuable things, and how the actual show depicts her character shouldn’t take away from what that headcanon means to you.

Endlessly funny thing about trans discourse and the tell that it's narcissism all the way down is how it's constantly talking about defying roles before immediately flopping into a rigid straightjacket of roles that are used to order and place everything in life. In this case, apparently someone having multiple nicknames means they're a trans woman. Or that a series of common events in your life is not evidence of the shared human experience but instead the uniquely specifically trans woman one.

And The Gamer writer leans into affirming the narcissism by talking about how headcanons are valid rather than the proper lesson: these people were so misogynistic they couldn't believe a woman with more masculine traits than they expected wasn't a male. Jade King is, of course, a trans woman themselves so they have to write a whole article pretending it's a "fandom" thing in general rather than it was something relating to a specific worldview that should be challenged. Nor is the author of the show, and the woman being accused of bigotry, allowed to push back against the males angry at her for not doing what they wanted and centering them in her fiction as she instead takes an apologetic tone towards them for their narcissistic anger at her.
