reminds me of the george floyd "defund the police" era that lasted several months
the average person understands "defund the police" as "abolish the police" and nobody wants that, especially those living in poorer disadvantaged areas
there were polls around that time showing that those voiceless people struggling day by day all wanted increased police presence, not brutality obviously, but they wanted the ghetto to be better patrolled and safer, counter to the rich white savior leftist narrative that knew best
"redirect police funding spent on militarizing them toward squads of social workers who are trained in de-escalation" isn't as pithy a slogan, but it's what they all said they meant...but the clearly spoken message didn't convey that at all
I remember it was so forceful that they even extracted a promise from milwaukee leadership to disband their police force and then the local public was like what?? fuck no! and they gave up on that retarded idea
