It's just such a silly rhetorical football. So much of the culture war revolves around who is doing more to prevent suicides... What's the actual scope of this issue? Is there meaningful population decline due to suicides that I don't know about? Is it a "even one is too many!" thing? If so, why?
Schools are banning phones, for instance, but not because kids are blowing their own brains out during homeroom. The core issue on the social media debate seems to be more about kids growing up--kind of the literal opposite of suicide--as emotional and intellectual retards.
and then there's how the focus on prevention leads people to notice that attention and start using it as a threat to get what they want
"gender affirming care SAVES LIVES! you better keep offering it or I'll kill myself, I swear I'll kill myself and it'll be your fault! and also I'll kill myself if you don't let me play on the girl's team and if you don't give me my dessert!"
