I get it.  Ask for clarity and boundaries, then.   If they can take a minute to tell you why the reassignment happened, what success looks like in your new role, and whether there’s a path or timeline back to where you were before.   Keep the creative identity outside of work so you don't get depressed - if that means making a strict schedule to do your shit, then do it.  A day job isn't always going to be creatively fulfilling, and that's totally fine.   This might be a stretch because you were just fitted into the new role, but maybe just talk to them and tell them what you're worried about - something like, "I’m worried I'll be losing the work I do best and care about most. Can we define what "great" looks like in the new role, and explore a hybrid where I continue doing my short-form creative stuff?" or something.  They'll probably appreciate seeing that self-motivated passion.

Don't get depressed dude, you're doing great and people recognize it.  You have a lot of good shit ahead of you and you're hella talented.

Thanks man, I had a talk with my boss today and it was a good talk, and it calmed me down quite a bit. 

Basically he said that they see a lot of potential in me, and that they think that I can mean more for the company than 'just making shorts only'. In the YT team there really isn't room to grow, as in for the full episodes. In the shorts team, yeah where is there to go as well? Not really anywhere in the long term, I agree with that and I understand that. 

He said that marketing is basically the moneymaker of the company, and way more important for them than shorts. So them wanting to move me up to marketing, to at least see if I'm good at it and a good fit, is just to see if I can mean more for the company. 

He also insinuated that a pay rise would be substantial when my contract is renewed in February. 

He also said that I should try this for at least the next three weeks, to see how it feels and how it goes. If by then I'd still rather go back to shorts, he said that it's still possible to go back there, but he thinks I won't want to. Because it's more pay, more responsibility, marketing / creative is still a combination and I'll still be editing. One day I might be the one thinking up marketing campaigns. 

And ofcourse there is way more room for growth in this department for me personally, than in the shorts dpt. I see that and I see that I can still learn a lot. 

It did give me a good feeling that they really see something in me, and that they want to help me grow and see what works best. 

It's just the way they went about it was kinda abrupt and kinda scared me. And I thought if I'm making the best shorts, why would you take me off the shorts? But I understand for the company shorts isn't as financially interesting as making interesting creative marketing campaigns. 

I just have no experience in that field. I just need to keep an open mind the next three weeks, I'm gonna do it full force and then decide what I think about it. 

I also asked if it was possible to work a bit hybrid, like 3/4 days of marketing dpt work, but one day where I can still work on shorts. He said that he's talking to the Marketing dpt head tomorrow, and he's gonna take that into consideration and ask that guy if that's a possibility.
