they are the noble victims of their story and nobody else can deserve that honor. They work so hard, they fight in wars all over the world to protect their little scrap at home, they do without(in their heads) any comforts giving it all up for their families, only to watch the liberals and the gays and the foreigners ruin that too.
So they don't want anyone else coming here to be the needy ones because there is no one who deserves more attention than they do. Even when they own saw mills and employ 50 people they still only had a little saw mill to their names in their tiny towns, and the world is so big and so full of threats coming straight for them, and full of things that *aren't theirs* that make them uncomfortable. And they won't change because they're perfect and don't need to. They did everything white, er, right. Everything around them tells them they're the good ones, so its the world that needs to conform to their way of thinking...
And it will too, they just have to hold on, and ignore all the signs around them telling them they've made a terrible mistake
