I finally got around to watching LaLaLand and was surprised how the long running joke of "Ryan gosling explains Jazz to John Legend" doesn't seem to be based much in reality. The two have a conversation about Jazz but it's much less about explaining it and instead about the two having different worldviews. Gosling is the nostalgic traditionalist and Legend is the innovator who believes Jazz has to evolve just like it evolved in the old days. It's very much a conversation on equal footing so I'm surprised (or I guess not that surprised) that it turned into a meme.

Anyway, really enjoyed the movie
