It's actually not that wild. The First International accomplished nothing because Marx demanded adherence to his apocalyptic zero-sum prophecy doctrine over accomplishing any reformist possibilities. The Second International forbid socialists from joining "bougie" governments only to then turn around and have everybody side with their nations in World War I over opposing war or any kind of "international solidarity" efforts. Some people connect these because the French socialists wanted to end the alliance with Russia but the International told them they couldn't join the center-left cabinet without betraying the cause.
